I took a two day hiatus to finish the current chapter of my WIP, but now I’m back! Today’s shoutout goes to Jenna Moreci, whose newest book The Savior’s Champion comes out in April. It’s an adult book, so I won’t be reviewing it, but if it sounds like your cup of tea, read the first three chapters on her website.
Today’s topic is supposed to be series I want to start, but I’m going to do something a bit different.
Series I recommend on Netflix
- Anne with an E
This is another adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Now, I have to confess that I’ve never read the books (I know, blasphemy) but I loved this series. It took me awhile to warm up to Anne, in particular to get used to her unique speech patterns, but once I did, I couldn’t stop watching. Those who have read the books say that the series tends to shed a little more light on the darker undertones of the books, but for me the dark and light playing off of each other was one of the biggest attractions to the series. I definitely recommend at least trying it, because the writing is great and the sets and overall vibe are incredibly true to the time period.
2. The Worst Witch
Based on the books by Jill Murphy, this is a sweet, fun series with definite Harry Potter undertones, about a young mortal who winds up at a boarding school for witches. It’s not as insightful or well-written as an, but it’s fun and a good thing to try if you’re in the mood for something light hearted and charming.
This one is based on comics, not books, but as someone who doesn’t typically enjoy hero shows, I find this one enjoyable mainly for the top-notch cast and well done character development. Though it does feature classic superhero fights, the crux of the story revolves around relationship (sibling, romantic, and friend wise).
